Description

A nostalgic paper toy. A psychological trap. And the moment they realise they never had free will at all.

Imagine performing a routine where every choice feels fair, open, and participant-led, yet every result lands exactly where you need it.

‘You Are My Puppet’ is a deceptively innocent routine built on a childhood paper-fortune teller(Love Predictor/Cootie Catcher)and transformed into a powerful piece of mentalism. What begins as a playful exploration of “free will” ends in an impossible revelation that your participant will never forget.

How Does It Play Out?

You introduce a folded paper toy, the kind everyone remembers from school.

You ask your participant whether they believe in free will, that their choices are their own. They inevitably say yes.

To prove this, they should freely name any capital city in Europe, demonstrating that they do have free will.

The paper toy is then shown, with all of the different words written on it.

The participant is asked to freely choose a word from the visible words on the paper toy, which will be spelt one letter at a time. The participant is also asked about the direction of movement in which the toy should be opened.

Everything is explained in advance.

Everything is open.

Everything feels fair.

Yet at the final moment, the segments open to reveal the words “Free Will” on all unselected segments. However, the last segment, the one they chose, is opened and reads:

MY PUPPET

As a final kicker, the entire toy is unfolded, flipped over, revealing…

…THE CAPITAL CITY they named at the start, written in giant letters.

A perfect blend of nostalgia, theatre, and psychological persuasion.

What Makes It So Unique?
